The String Theory alpha Project

Two worlds in fusion

composed by Stéphane Orlando
for the Stéphane Mercier Trio
and the Edinburgh Quartet

The marriage between classical and jazz has given birth to many gems, notably some string albums by Charlie Parker, Stan Getz, Lee Konitz, Billie Holiday or Roy Hargrove, considered as true masterpieces.

The String Theory alpha Project is the first of a series of programs composed by Stéphane Orlando for a jazz trio and a classical string quartet. For this first opus, it’s the Stéphane Mercier Trio and the Edinburgh Quartet who join their forces in precise and sophisticated arrangements, but also in moments of jubilant improvisation… the best of both worlds!

The choice of title, The String Theory a project, refers to the discipline that seeks to explain vibratory phenomena: it’s a whole universe of possible metaphors that goes beyond the simple use of the string quartet to stimulate the imagination of an audience always curious about new combinations.
